Bhubaneswar: An eight-year-old girl is among the two persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Bhubaneswar.

Confirming the development, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the two COVID-19 positive cases belong to Patia area in the capital city.

“A 40-year-old male and an 8-year-old female, both belonging to one family have tested positive for COVID-19. The family has a travel history to Delhi,” informed BMC in a tweet.

The BMC officials further informed that contact tracing is still continuing while the primary contacts and nearby houses of the positive cases are being quarantined and sanitised as per protocol.

Both the COVID-19 cases detected from Bhubaneswar are among the 75 new positive cases reported from different parts of the State in the last 24 hours.

With the detection of two new COVID-19 positive cases, the total tally in the capital city has reached 88 with 34 active cases and 51 recoveries. Three deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Bhubaneswar so far.

The capital city Bhubaneswar is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases as five positives were reported on Saturday. While 4 cases in the capital city were under home quarantine, 1 local contact case was reported from Gajapati Nagar.

Later, three departments of Utkal University were sealed after an employee’s contact tested positive for coronavirus. According to university sources, Philosophy, English and Economics departments have been sealed.
