Bhubaneswar: Odisha is now witnessing a peak in COVID-19 cases. However, the respite is that over 70 per cent of the positive cases are now in home isolation, informed National Health Mission (NHM) Director, Shalini Pandit on Friday.

According to Pandit, Odisha is in a better position compared to other States in the country as far as dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned.

More than 50,000 tests per day are now being conducted in Odisha and the positivity rate is low while the recovery rate is high. The COVID-19 mortality rate is also lowest in the country, she added.

"When the first case was detected on March 15, Odisha had no much information about coronavirus and all patients were being admitted to hospital. Following an extensive research by experts, we have now found that all patients do not need hospitalisation rather the recovery rate is higher in home isolation," she said.

According to Pandit, COVID-19 patients, who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, are allowed to go for home isolation. “Nearly 70 % of positive cases are now under home isolation including senior officers, MLAs and Ministers. The recovery is also much better in home isolation,” she added.
