Bhubaneswar: Thanks to coordinated efforts, 232 petrol pumps out of a total of 234 filling stations in Puri, Cuttack and Khurda districts have been made operational within seven days of cyclone Fani.
After taking stock of the situation during a review meeting held today, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that three districts Puri, Khurda and Cuttack were worst affected during the cyclone. Out of the total 234 petrol pumps of IOCL, BPCL & HPCL in these three districts, 232 filling stations have been made operational. Moreover, remaining two units of HPCL will resume operations from tomorrow, he added.
“Situation is little grim in Puri as long queues are being observed at petrol pumps. However, situation is easing in Brahmagiri, Nimapara and nearby areas,” said Pradhan.
Pradhan further informed that in order to ensure regular supply of diesel for running of generators by banks and other institutions, eight mobile tankers have been pressed into service. The mobile fuel distribution tankers will ensure doorstep delivery of fuel to government offices, banks, telecom operators and hospitals for ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
“The current sales of fuel in Puri district have reached 3 lakh litres per day which is close to the normal consumption levels. All 162 LPG distribution centres in Puri, Khurda, and Cuttack districts are operational. There is enough stock to meet the demand in the affected districts,” the Union Minister tweeted.
