Sonepur/Angul: Two persons were killed while two others reportedly sustained critical injuries in separate road mishaps in Odisha on Wednesday morning.

As per reports, a youth died while his driver was critically injured after the car they were travelling in hit a cable laying machine, parked on the roadside on NH-57 near Arjunpur forest in Sonepur district this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Subhrasu Joshi of Tileswar village in Boudh, while the driver has been identified as Bikash.

Joshi was reportedly travelling to Bolangir district from Boudh when the mishap took place. Bikash, who was driving the car, lost control over the vehicle and hit the cable laying machine.

Joshi died on the spot while Bikash was rescued by the fire personnel, who reached the spot after getting information from the locals, and rushed him to Sonepur Hospital for treatment.

Police also rushed to the spot and sent Joshi's body for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway by the police.

In another mishap, one person was killed while another was critically injured after a bike they were riding on fell off a bridge near Raibahal under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Binod Pandey while the injured has been identified as Bhimsen Mallick. Both of them are residents of Athamalik area in the district.

According to sources, the duo was heading to Madhpur from Kishorenagar when they lost control over the two-wheeler and meet the accident. Pandey died on the spot.

Police rushed to the spot and sent Mallick to a nearby hospital for treatment through an ambulance.
