Angul: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at four places associated with Basant Kumar Bastia, junior engineer in Boinda Rural Development department, on charges of amassing properties disproportionate to his know sources of income.

According to sources, several teams of the anti-corruption agency raided Bastia's double storied and four storied buildings, his relative's house at Niali area in Cuttak and laid its hand on some important documents.

Moreover, a team also searched his office and residential quarter in Angul.

In another case on October 27, vigilance sleuths had caught the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Nandapur in Koraput district red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.75 lakh.

As per sources, the officials of the Jeypore division had laid a trap based on a complaint and held the CDPO Snigdharani Mishra, who in her office was receiving the bribe amount from a contractor reportedly to issue a duplicate bill.

It is being alleged that the CDPO is involved in massive corruption in supply of kits to anganwadi centres, wherein a supplier is preferred according to the amount s/he gives to the CDPO for the same. And subsequently, as per the decision of the CDPO, the contractor bribed her with Rs 1.75 lakh as soon as the office reopened after Dussehra vacation.

Similarly, a team of the anti-corruption wing had seized Rs 2,34,900 cash from the possession of district civil supplies officer (CSO) Raja Ali in Balasore district on October 23.

An assistant executive engineer Rabindra Pradhan had also been arrested in Bhubaneswar on October 21 after disproportionate property worth around Rs 6.50 crore in his name was found.
