Jajpur: The skeletal remains of two unidentified persons were recovered from the bank of Baitarani river near Dhanatri in Jajpur district on Saturday.

According to initial reports, some local residents spotted the skeletons near the riverbed and contacted the cops. Later, Panikoili police and personnel of fire services department reached the spot and recovered the skeletons.

The skeletons were sent to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy. The circumstances under which the skeletons were washed away in the flood water will be ascertained after gender determination and forensic tests, said a police officer.

“The skeletons were found floating near the river bank. They were sent to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. At this stage, we cannot say whether the skeletons washed away from any cremation ground or any other place,” said Panikoili PS inspector in-charge, Sasmita Sahu.
