Bhubaneswar: A day after witnessing a record surge of over 1800 positive cases, Odisha reported 1643 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positive tally has risen to 44193 while the death toll in the State jumped to 259 on Saturday.

As per I &PR department, Ganjam and Khordha districts reported maximum of 274 COVID-19 cases each followed by Rayagada (136), Sundergarh (118), Sambalpur (112) and Cuttack (98).

Of the 1643 new cases, 1018 cases were detected in quarantine centres while 625 are local contacts, informed I&PR department.

The COVID-19 death toll in Odisha also rose to 259 after 12 more positive patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours. Three more COVID patients also died due to other health complications.

As per Health and Family welfare department, two deaths each were reported from Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Khordha while one death each was reported from  Balasore, Bargarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh.

On Friday, Odisha had seen a record spike of 1833 new COVID-19 cases. This is the highest single-day spike reported in the State so far.

The State also witnessed a record in COVID-19 recoveries with 1810 patients recuperating from the coronavirus infection on Friday.
