Boudh: Normal life came to a grinding halt at Harabhanga in Boudh district after the Communist Party of India (CPI) observed 12-hour bandh demanding establishment of a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in the block.

The CPI members alleged that even if the State Government announced the setting up of a JMFC court in the block much before, no steps have been taken for the same.

The activists picketed at various keys points like Harabhang, Puruna Cuttack, Madhapur, Charichhak, Chhatran and Lunibahal in the district to mark the bandh. The agitating members also blocked the National Highway- 57 connecting Khurda to Bolangir, bringing vehicular movement in the route to a standstill.They also picketed at various government and non-government institutions to press their demand.

Various business establishments, shops, markets, schools and colleges remained closed in the area, reports said.
