Bhubaneswar: As many as 11 police personnel of various police stations and outposts in Banpur and Balugaon areas in Khurda district have tested positive for COVID-19.

As per Khurda Collector, the frontline warriors of different police stations and outposts have contracted Coronavirus in their line of duty.

Khurda SP, Ajay Pratap Swain informed that earlier some personnel from Khurda Town and Balugaon had tested positive for COVID-19. Now 11 more personnel from Banpur, Balugaon police station and two outposts have tested positive for COVID-19, he added.

The SP office today reopened 72 hours after it was closed for carrying out sanitation drive.  Two staff at SP office had earlier tested for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, all personnel of the affected police stations and outposts have beenasked to go on home quarantine. A special officer will be deployed at Banpur to manage the functioning of the police station.

Temporary arrangments are being made to ensure that enforcement of COVID-19 norms and other law and order is thoroughly maintained in the respective areas, the district administration informed.

Senior officials informed that boxes at police stations have been installed where people can drop their complaints and other grievances.

Not only Khurda, around 150 police personnel in Ganjam district recently tested positive for COVID-19. Of the 150 personnel, 120 have already recovered while 30 more are undergoing treatment, official sources said.

Similarly, as many as 36 police personnel also tested positive for the virus in Sundergarh a few days ago.
