Keonjhar: One person was killed and six others sustained critical injuries after an auto-rickshaw collided head-on with an ambulance near Jamunanda on Anandapur-Karanjia road in Keonjhar on Thursday.

As per sources, the incident occurred last night when the auto-rickshaw passengers were on their way to Thakuramunda area from Kathakata to watch 'Jatra'.

It was so dark that the driver of the auto-rickshaw could not see the 102 ambulance coming from the opposite direction and collided head-on with it.

While one person died on the spot, six others who sustained injuries were rushed to Anandapur sub-divisional hospital immediately. Among the injured, one woman was later shifted to SCB Medical college and hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition.

Sources said all the passengers are tribals and residents of Kathakata village in Anandapur tehsil.
