Kolkata: In a throwback to the 70s, members of R D Burman's music team revived the Pancham magic at a show to pay tribute to Rajesh Khanna in the city of joy.
Named 'Yeh Sham Mastani', the show featured Ramesh Iyer on guitar, Kishore Sodha on trumpet, Raj Sodha on saxophone and on accordion, all integral members of the 60s and 70s RDB troupe which accompanied the versatile musician during his numerous trips to the metropolis.
As the artistes on stage played the evergreen numbers 'Pyaar Diwana Hota Hain', 'Yeh Kya Hua Kaise Hua', 'Jai Jai Shiv Shankar', 'Hum Dono Do Premee', 'Nadiya Se Dariya', 'Chala Jata Hoon', 'O Mere Dil Ke Chain' and many more, the audience went nostalgic.
"This is the perfect tribute to not only Rajeshji, whose lipsyncing immortalized many Kishore Kumar numbers, We also pay respect to the two geniuses Kishoreda and Pancham - and what better place than Kolkata where the audience still retains the taste for the melodies of past more than any other cities in India," Ramesh Iyer said.
Rajesh Khanna was the body, Kishore Kumar was the soul and Panchamda was the bridge between the two, Suraj Sathe, another veteran on accordion, said.
"The response we got from the audience is proof that the eternal trio of Rajesh Khanna, RD Burman and Kishore Kumar still rules the heart of all the music lovers across the world, even among the future generation", Jayanta Sur, Founder Member, Euphony, the premier foundation set up to bring back the golden oldies of past, said.
Since 2007 Euphony has organized 18 shows in Calcutta and its suburbs and in Bangalore all catering to R D's music.
