Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued Yellow Warning in view of possibilities of thunderstorm and lightning activities in 19 districts of Odisha in next 24 hours. 

The districts for which the alert has been issued are Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Kandhamal. 

“Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over these districts in the next 24 hours,” the Met dept said in its Midday weather bulletin.

The weather office also sounded Yellow Warning for several districts in the State till May 13. 

Day 2 (From 8:30am of May 10 to 8:30am of May 11)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara.

Day 3 (From 8:30am of May 11 to 8:30am of May 12)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.  

Day 4 (From 8:30am of May 12 to 8:30am of May 13)

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

In view of the forecast, the State Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued advisory to all Collectors suggesting measures to be taken during the adverse weather. 

“Steps should be taken to circulate the warning message among the public. Situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken in case of any eventuality,” the advisory said.
