Rain to batter Odisha ahead of New Year; cold wave conditions to return
As Odisha prepares to usher in the New Year, the state is expected to witness a rainy weather from today. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in the northern and north western regions over the next two days, courtesy a western disturbance.
As per the weather office, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several districts, which can result in precipitation on both 28th and 29th of this month. Owing to the western disturbance, the state is expected to receive rainfall today, particularly in western Odisha, signalling a chilly start to the year.
The districts of Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sonepur districts may witness rain showers today. On December 29, regions such as Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi are likely to experience rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast a frosty start to the New Year, with severe bone-chilling cold battering Odisha. The Meteorological department anticipates a cool yet dry start to January, with residual effects of the western disturbance easing by then.
As per reports, weather conditions are projected to remain dry from December 30 to January 2, with a significant drop in temperature. While no major changes in night-time temperatures are expected over the next three days, the Meteorological Department forecasts dry periods accompanied by a rise in winter chill as the New Year begins.
Meanwhile, a yellow fog warning has been issued for Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts today, forewarning the residents of possible dense fog.
