IMD’s latest updates on induced cyclonic circulation, anti-cyclone and thunderstorm
A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from January 1, 2025. Under its influence light rainfall/snowfall is likely over the region till January 2, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.
As per the IMD, an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and a trough runs from north Pakistan to east-central Arabian Sea across induced cyclonic circulation in lower tropospheric levels.
In addition, there is an interaction of westerly winds due to western disturbance with easterly winds from anticyclone over north Chhattisgarh at lower tropospheric levels along with high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea as well as Bay of Bengal over northwest and central India mainly during December 27 and 28.

Under the influence of these systems:
Fairly widespread to widespread Rainfall/Snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, and lightning is likely over the Western Himalayan Region on the 27th & 28th of December with isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall likely over Himachal Pradesh on the 27th and Uttarakhand on 27th & 28th of December.
Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms,and lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan on December 27 and Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds (wind speed 30-40 kmph) likely over the same region on December 28 with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh on 27th December.
Isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds (wind speed 30-50 kmph) likely over East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, interior Maharashtra and Gujarat Region on 27th & 28th December.
Thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms are also likely over Southeast Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat Region on December 27 and Madhya Pradesh on 27th & 28th December.
