Yesterday, Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest city in Odisha, recording a sweltering 37°C on Friday. Not far behind, Sambalpur registered 36.4°C, while Hirakud reached 35.6°C.

On first day of March, temperature crosses 37 degrees in Odisha

Odisha is witnessing a spike in temperatures even at the beginning of March, raising concerns about the weather condition in the State in the upcoming days as the warmer days are yet to approach.

In Jharsuguda, the mercury surpassed 37°C on Saturday, and by 2:30 PM in the afternoon the recorded temperature in the city was 37.4 degrees Celsius.

Above-normal temperatures 

In its observations cited in the Saturday’s Mid-Day bulletin, the IMD said “Maximum Temperatures were appreciable above normal by about 3-5°C at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha, above normal by about 2-3°C at a few places over the districts of Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.  Minimum Temperature has observed appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of South Interior Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Minimum Temperatures were appreciably above normal by about 3-5°C at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha, above normal by about 2-3°C at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha, the IMD noted.

Temperature forecast

As per the IMD bulletin, no large change is expected in maximum temperature (day temperature) for the next 04-05 days and no large change thereafter. Similarly, no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) is expected over the districts of Odisha during the next  04-05 days.
