Heatwave in Odisha! Temperature soar to 37°C, IMD predicts rise

As per the prediction by the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, no significant weather system currently lies over Odisha. As a result, dry weather is very likely to prevail over most of the districts in the state.

Heatwave in Odisha

Odisha is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures even in February, raising concerns about the weather condition in the State in the upcoming days as the warmer days are yet to approach.

Jharsuguda has emerged as the hottest city in Odisha, recording a sweltering 37°C on Friday.

Not far behind, Sambalpur has registered 36.4°C, while Hirakud reached 35.6°C. The state’s capital, Bhubaneswar, reported a maximum temperature of 34°C. 

The early onset of intense heat has caused discomfort among the residents, as unseasonably high temperatures sweep across the region.

Meteorologists attribute these rising temperatures to climatic anomalies typically affecting this region in the transition from winter to summer.

Many local inhabitants have expressed concerns over the early and escalating heat, with some already modifying daily routines to avoid heat exposure. Overall, Odisha braces for even higher temperatures as the warmer months approach.

Meanwhile, IMD has not issued any major warning for the next five days. There will be a gradual rise of minimum temperature by 2-3°C over the districts of Odisha in the next 4-5 days.

IMD has predicted mainly clear sky in the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the next two days. Both the cities are likely to witness partly cloudy sky for the next four days.
