Odisha wakes up to dense fog, yellow warning issued for Jan 17

Odisha faces dense fog and a yellow warning for Jan 17, with the Regional Meteorological Centre alerting several districts. Residents advised caution during travel.

Dense fog engulfs

In the wake of a severe cold wave, Odisha on Thursday woke up to dense fog and poor visibility. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued more dense fog alerts for several districts, urging residents to prepare for the challenging weather conditions in upcoming days.

As per the bulletin issued by the weather office, the districts of Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal will be under the wrap of dense fog today, where visibility is expected to drop significantly. 

Likewise, the Met Office issued a yellow fog warning for five districts on Friday. A yellow warning for dense fog has been issued for Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on Friday, indicating potential weather-induced disruptions.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution while travelling, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours when fog is likely to be at its densest. Motorists are advised to use fog lights and maintain safe distances to ensure road safety.

Meanwhile, after some relief in the past couple of days, cold conditions are likely to return in Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday informed that there would be a change in the minimum or night temperature in the next three to four days.

Moreover, the minimum temperature is likely to fall by 2 to 3 degrees C thereafter over the districts of Odisha, said IMD.

Weather Forecast: 

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 16.01.2025): Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Angul and Deogarh.

Yellow Warning:  Dense fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Khordha, Kalahandi, Kandhamal.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 16.01.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 17.01.2025): Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur,Angul, Deogarh, Nayagarh.

Yellow Warning: Dense fog is very likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal.
