Bhubaneswar: A Low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and its adjoining area by June 11.

Under its influence, the southwest monsoon is likely to advance to a few places in Odisha in the next two-three days.

Several places in interior and coastal Odisha are likely to experience rain from tomorrow under the impact of the fresh phenomenon, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in parts of Odisha between June 10 and 14, the weather department said.

Coastal areas will experience wind with a speed of 40-50 kmph. The fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea during the period as the sea condition will be phenomenal, said HR Biswas, director, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

The weather department also predicted rain accompanied by lightning in several places of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada districts.

If favourable condition persists, the low-pressure area would intensify into a depression and then deep depression before converting into a cyclonic storm.

Earlier, Cyclone ‘Yaas’ had hit the northern coast of Odisha on May 26 causing massive damages in four north Odisha districts.
