Monsoon Active Over Odisha, Low Pressure By July 11; IMD Predicts Heavy Rain

Heavy rainfall likely to occur in several districts in Odisha in next 24 hours.

The southwest monsoon is now active over Odisha. A cyclonic circulation lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal which extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

As per the IMD, a low pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh- south Odisha coasts around July 11, 2021.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir in the next 24 hours.

Weather forecast and (warning) for districts of Odisha for next five days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 08.07.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 09.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh,Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha and Puri.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.07.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 10.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Sundargarh. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 10.07.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 11.07.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri,Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri,Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj.
