Mercury to rise by 2 to 4 degrees in Odisha; IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms as well

Temperature in Odisha rises, impacting life. IMD predicts further increase, with thunderstorms till April 12, 2025, offering some respite.

Normal life is now being adversely hit owing to the sudden rise in maximum or day temperature in different parts of Odisha in the past 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that there would be a further rise in the maximum temperature in Odisha in the coming days.
As per the IMD’s forecast, the maximum or day temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees C for the next two days and no major change thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

However, some respite is also on the cards for the people as the IMD has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm activities in some districts of the state. The thunderstorm activities are likely to continue till April 12, 2025

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 06.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajpati, Ganjam.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 08.04.2025): Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 09.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is  very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.04.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 10.04.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajpati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh.
