Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of a low pressure area which is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and the neighbouring areas around June 11.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that the system will also help in the advancement of southwest Monsoon into most parts of Odisha.

“Widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over the districts of Odisha within June 10 to June 14,” said IMD in a release.

Under the influence of the low pressure, strong surface winds reaching a speed of 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal on June 10 and off Odisha coast, North Bay of Bengal and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal from June 11, 2021.

Heavy Rainfall Warning (Yellow Warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and isolated heavy rainfall over the districts of Dhenkanal, Puri, Angul, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Boudh and Kandhamal.

Day 5 (Valid From 0830 hours of 11.6,2021 to 0830 hours of June 12, 2021)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall likely to occur over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul and Dhenakanal.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall likely in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur and Kalahandi.

IMPACT:

-Waterlogging and localised flash floods in some places.

-Some damage to kutcha roads.

-Traffic congestion and disruption of municipal services due to waterlogging in urban areas.

-Damage to horticultural crops, vegetables in some areas due to inundation.
