Low pressure over southwest BoB in 36 hours, to move towards Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka coasts

A low-pressure area is forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal within 36 hours, moving towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Light to moderate rainfall expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala; fog in Punjab, Rajasthan.

IMD predicts low pressure

The cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels persisted over the same region and a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same area during the next 36 hours, informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

As per IMD, it is likely to move slowly nearly westwards towards the Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka coasts during the subsequent two days. Similarly, a trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal to the east-central Bay of Bengal and extends up to middle tropospheric levels.

Weather Forecast

Light to moderate rainfall at a few places accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry,  Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe during 10th-14th November.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu from 11th-15th; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema from 12th-14th; Kerala & Mahe from 13th -16th; Coastal & South Interior Karnataka on 14th November.

Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in night/morning hours in isolated pockets of west Punjab & northwest Rajasthan during the next two days; Dense fog is also likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during the next three days.
