A low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours under the influence of a cyclonic circulation that lies over west Myanmar and its neighbourhood.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said the system is likely to become more marked during subsequent 24 hours and move west-northwestwards thereafter.

Due to heavy rain the water level in Jalaka river has increased significantly following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the river.

IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar said the fresh low pressure system is expected to enhance rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha till August 15, 2022. The rainfall intensity is expected to increase from tomorrow.

“Under the influence of strong monsoon flow and anticipated low pressure area and further intensification, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is very likely over north adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during next 24 hours. Squally surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting 65kmph is very likely along and off Odisha coast & north adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during 13 to 15th August, 2022,” said IMD.
