Youths stand by bonfire to beat the intense cold

In the coming two days, minimum temperature could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across many regions. Between 2nd and 4th January, several regions across various states might experience minimum temperatures falling below 10°C.
Incidentally, many parts of the state, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, had witnessed a slight rise in mercury after the end of the untimely depression-induced rain. However, they are predicted to again feel the winter chill.
Weather Predictions for Major Cities Across Odisha
Minimum temperatures on 1st January will drop across many places in Odisha with Phulbani expected to shiver at 10 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the districts of Koraput and Dhenkanal will also witness chills at 11 to 12 degrees Celsius respectively.
Major cities like Rourkela, Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack are all predicted to reel at around 14 degree Celsius while Angul may drop further to 13 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Puri is expected to see temperature at 16 degree Celsius while Bhadrak and Balasore will stay at 13 and 15 degree Celsius respectively.
The broader impact of this chilling cold is likely to be felt in northern regions where winter conditions typically intensify, affecting daily routines and possibly causing disruptions in some locations. Residents in these areas are advised to stay updated with the latest weather developments and take necessary precautions against the cold.
The Met Office has also urged people to adequately prepare for the drop in temperature, particularly for those in vulnerable situations, to avoid health-related issues induced by the cold weather.
Accompanying this cold spell, light to moderate fog is also anticipated in some areas, according to the Meteorological office. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur over one or two places in Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur districts.
