IMD predicts heavy rainfall, snowfall in several parts due to western disturbance
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heavy rainfall, snowfall in several parts of India under the influence of western disturbance.
As per IMD, a western disturbance is seen as a cyclonic circulation over east Afghanistan in lower tropospheric levels. Another fresh western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over Iraq and neighbourhood.
Under its influence, light isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall is likely over Western Himalayan region from January 1 to January 3, 2025 and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall over the region from January 4th to 6th.

Similarly, heavy rainfall/snowfall is also likely at isolated places also likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Bal tistan-Muzaffarabad on January 5. Light isolated to scattered rainfall is also likely over the plains of Northwest India during January 4th to 6th.
Cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh on January 1; in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on 2nd January.
Cold Day conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh on 1st and 2nd January.
Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during late night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Odisha till 2nd, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalay an West Bengal and Sikkim till 3rd and Assam, Meghalaya & Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura till 6th January.
Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during 1st – 3rd January.
