Weather Update: IMD’s latest forecast on fresh western disturbance and cyclonic circulation

A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, scattered to light/moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Isolated light/moderate rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya on March 5.

For Representational Purpose

Strong surface winds, 25-35 kmph gusting to 45 kmph, are likely to prevail over the plains of Northwest India including Delhi during next 24 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

As per IMD, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan region from March 9, 2025. Under its influence, isolated to moderate rainfall/snowfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh during March 9 – 11th and Uttarakhand on March 11.

Isolated to light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) is likely over Bihar on March 8; thunderstorm and lightning over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 7th and 8th March.

Maximum Temperature Forecast

Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C likely over Northeast India during next 2-3 days and no significant change thereafter. 

No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over Maharashtra, Telangana & North Interior Karnataka during next 2 days and gradual rise by 2-3°C thereafter. 

No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over Gujarat Region during next 24 hours and gradual rise by 3-5°C thereafter.

No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over South India (except Telangana & North Interior Karnataka) during next 5 days.
