Heavy rainfall alert for Odisha: IMD issues orange, yellow warnings

With the south-west monsoon remaining active over Odisha, several districts in the state are witnessing continued rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for various districts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

An orange warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Bhadrak districts, where heavy to very heavy rain along with lightning is expected on Thursday. The IMD has advised residents in these regions to stay alert and avoid outdoor activities during severe weather conditions.

Similarly, yellow warnings for heavy rainfall have been issued for Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Deogarh. Authorities have been asked to keep a close watch on low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.

In addition, thunderstorm warnings are in place for Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. The IMD has urged people in these areas to remain indoors during lightning activity and to take necessary precautions.

As monsoon activity picks up, the state administration has begun monitoring vulnerable regions to tackle any emerging flood-like situations. Fishermen have also been advised to avoid venturing into the sea under adverse weather conditions.
