The southwest monsoon is now active over Odisha and already several parts of the State are experiencing rainfall activities for the past couple of days along with brief spells of thunderstorm and lightning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that rain, thunderstorm with lightning activity will continue in Odisha till June 27. Similarly, a Yellow warning for heavy rain has also been issued for several districts in the next 24 hours.

As per IMD, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jajpur in the next 24 hours.

“The cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal persist and now seen between 2.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height,” said IMD.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next five days:

Day 1 (valid from 1330 hrs IST of 22.06.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 23.06.2021)

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Odisha and at a few places over the districts of South Odisha.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Jajpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.06.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 24.06.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Deogarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha.

Day 3 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 24.06.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 25.06.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore.

Day 4 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 25.06.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 26.06.2021) Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha.

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal and Jajpur.

Day 5 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.06.2021up to 0830 hrs IST of 27.06.2021)

Yellow Warning (To be updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj.
