Heavy rain lashes Odisha districts; IMD issues orange alert for thunderstorm, lightning and hail

Several parts of Odisha, including the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, experienced rainfall activities triggered by thunderstorm on Saturday. Heavy rainfall was also reported from Berhampur on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday informed that several parts of Odisha will continue to experience rainfall activities triggered by thunderstorm activities in the coming days as well.

The IMD has also issued orange and yellow warnings for thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds and hail as well.

Weather Forecast 

Day 1 (Valid upto 0830 hrs IST of 23.03.2025)

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at few places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.03.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 24.03.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 25.03.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur in the afternoon at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
