As predicted, the depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast moved west-southwestwards, crossed Sri Lanka coast to the south of Trincomalee and weakened into a well marked low pressure area over Sri Lanka yesterday.

Subsequently, the well marked low pressure area weakened into a low pressure area over Comorin area and neighbourhood today, said India Meteorological Department (IMD).

As per IMD, It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Southeast Arabian Sea.

Rainfall warning

Light to moderate rainfall at many places Lakshadweep area and at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala and Mahe on December 26 and December 27, 2022 and gradual reduction in rainfall activity over the region.

Isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over south Kerala and south Tamil Nadu on December 26, 2022.

Minimum Temperature Forecast, Cold Wave

As per IMD, dense to very dense fog very likely to continue over some parts of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and West Rajasthan during next 48 hours; and over East Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours.

Its intensity and spread likely to reduce thereafter. However, dense fog in isolated pockets likely to continue over Punjab during the subsequent three days.

Severe cold wave conditions very likely in some/isolated pockets over north Rajasthan during next three days. Cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during next three days and over Himachal Pradesh during next two days.
