A minor girl, who was allegedly engaged as a domestic help and subjected to torture, was rescued by Childline members from a house located in Bankers’ Enclave Colony in Bhubaneswar's Palasuni area under Mancheswar police limits on Sunday.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the Childline, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Ashok Kumar Swain and Manini Anuradha Biswal had reportedly employed the minor girl.

According to a source, the victim’s family met with Ashok’s father Ajay Kumar Swain three years ago. Since the financial condition of the victim’s family was not sound, her father sought some financial help from Ajay. Taking advantage of their situation, Ajay proposed to take her with him to which her father was agreed. Ajay gave some money to her father.

She was employed at the house of Ashok. There she was allegedly tortured even for a minor fault. She was threatened against telling anyone about what was happening to her. Considering her family’s situation, she also wished to keep mum.

After coming to know about the girl’s sufferings from a confirmed source, Childline with the help of Mancheswar police conducted a raid at Ashok’s house and rescued the girl. As officials noticed bruises and marks of hot branding, they immediately rushed her to Capital Hospital. Later, she was taken to a shelter home at Kalinga Vihar.

Registering a case, the police have detained one and launched an investigation.
