Depression triggers heavy rainfall in different parts of Odisha; situation worse in Malkangiri
Several parts of Odisha are experiencing enhanced rainfall activities under the influence of the depression over the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier informed that the system is likely to move further west-northwestwards and cross the Odisha coast to the south of Puri near Chilika Lake as a depression during early morning hours today.
Continuing to move further west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh it would weaken gradually during subsequent 24 hours, said IMD.
Several parts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced rainfall activities on Saturday.
Earlier, the IMD had issued a 'red warning' for heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.
As per reports, heavy rainfall activity has disrupted normal life in Malkangiri district. 2 to 3 ft water is now flowing over the Kanguru bridge following which the communication between Malkangiri and Kalimela has been affected on Saturday.
Several vehicles are now stranded on both sides of the road. Similarly, the road communication from Kalimela to Motu has also been snapped as flood water is also flowing over MV 90 and MV 96 bridge.
