India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional centre in Chennai on Tuesday issued heavy rainfall warning for several places under the influence of the probable cyclonic storm over southeast Bay of Bengal.

As per the regional met centre, yesterday’s low pressure area over south Andaman Sea and neighbourhood lay as a ‘Well Marked Low Pressure area’ over southeast Bay of Bengal today. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal by today evening.

Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further gradually into a Cyclonic Storm around December 7 evening and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning. It will continue to move westnorthwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 48 hours.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places is very likely over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on December 8; heavy to very heavy falls at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on December 9.

 08.12.2022: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu.

9.12.2022: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal; extremely heavy rain is also likely to occur at one or two places.

Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu.

10.12.2022: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Kallakurichi and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
