IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Odisha

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted increase in rainfall activities in Odisha from September 18 under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal (BoB).

On Sunday, since early morning, several parts of Odisha including Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Ganjam witnessed light to moderate rainfall. As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, several parts of the state will experience heavy rainfall activities today.

Similarly, under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area is likely to develop around September 20. The low pressure is likely to develop over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of the anticipated low pressure area and strong monsoon current, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph is likely over deep sea area of west-central adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal on September 20, and along and off Odisha coast and west central adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal on September 21 and 22.

Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea area of west-centarl adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on September 20.
