The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam is known as one of India's toughest exams. Successfully passing it can lead to prestigious jobs like IAS, IPS, and IFS. However, failing the exam can be disheartening, especially when parents react negatively.
Recently, a viral post on social media highlighted a father scolding his son for scoring only 75 marks in the UPSC CSE Prelims 2024. This has sparked a debate about parenting.
In the post, the father expressed disappointment, saying, "We told you not to waste time on this. Now you have no place left." He also compared his son's score to others.
"I didn't get anything from my father, but I earned respect by living in a city like Delhi. I have no expectations from you anymore," later, his father said.
Then his father said, “Raha tumhara bat tum se na humko koi ummid hai, nahi humko koi ummid hai, nahi humko kuch tum de payega.”
And his father again wrote, “Aaj v agar hum imandari se padhai kare to upsc kya kuch v nikal denge is bar ka question me v20 questions mujhe aata that aur tum 40 kiye ise se samjho ki tum kya karoge galimat hai ki tum sirf sahi bata diya. Tumhara padhai ka aukat ab sab Delhi se lekar ristedar tak samajh gaya.” The message ended as shared on social media platform 'X'."
The post received strong reactions online. One user commented, "This is heartbreaking. It's no wonder aspirants face depression or worse."
Another said, "it is sad that there's no unconditional love for the son, especially over such a challenging exam."
Yet another user commented, “’Tum humko kuch nahi de paoge’ this is brutal and could completely shatter the kid's mental strength. I hope he finds peace wherever he is.”
Lastly, another user expressed, “So sad to see this! I hate to say it, but if I were in his place, this would compel me to throw my phone away and not return home!!”
Many expressed sympathy for the son, noting the damaging impact such harsh criticism could have on his mental health.
