Scenes of overcrowded passengers hijacking general or sleeper compartments in Indian trains are sadly nothing new. However, the latest trend of unwanted crowds inside AC coaches has now become a matter of concern, with authorities concerned being allegedly least bothered.
Meanwhile, an alarming video of passengers boiling in the heat inside an AC compartment has sent shockwaves on social media. Despite booking tickets in the AC compartment, the passengers alleged the AC was not working.
Children and the elderly had to travel on bare bodies to escape the excess heat. A video that has caught the attention on social media shows angry passengers lashing out at a Railway employee for their negligent attitude.
“My children have to travel shirtless. The heat was so unbearable that many passengers had to pull the ‘chain’. Is this why we pay hefty ticket money for AC compartments?” questioned an angry woman passenger.
Many passengers even complained of rats and mice roaming around in the AC compartment. Shockingly, the railway employee seems unbothered and can be heard saying that it was no big deal in the viral video.
The viral has sparked outrage on social media, especially after the Darjeeling train mishap that claimed the lives of 10 passengers while over 25 others were injured following a collision between the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express and a good train.
While people are welcoming PM Modi’s ambitious Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways would have been one of the best transport modes in the country if not for the lack of maintenance and cleanliness in trains, less number of general coaches for the poor and ticketless passengers hijacking sleeper and AC compartments, rued a netizen.
