In a touching display of love and devotion, an elderly couple from Maharashtra has won hearts across the internet. Nivrutti Shinde, a daily beggar, recently saved Rs 1100 over the span of a month – all to fulfil a long-cherished dream: gifting his wife, Shantabai, a mangalsutra.

The couple, who earn their livelihood by begging on the streets of Parbhani, walked into a local jewellery shop with a bag full of coins – their month’s hard-earned savings. Nivrutti’s only wish was to see his wife wear a mangalsutra, a sacred necklace symbolising marriage, which she never had the chance to wear during their earlier years of struggle.

According to eyewitnesses and media reports, when the jeweller heard their story and saw the elderly man’s pure intent, he was deeply moved. Instead of charging them the actual cost, he offered the mangalsutra to the couple for just Rs 20.
