Clash of jungle giants: Mother Bear confronts Royal Bengal Tiger for the sake of her cub, watch
It is quite common to see animals of the same species engaging in conflicts in the forest. This could be due to territorial disputes, mating, self-defence or dominance hierarchy establishment. However, confrontation between animals of different species, except predators and their prey, is comparatively less. However, when it comes to protecting their family or self or competition for resources, such defensive behaviour is quite obvious. However, it is rare to witness inter-species confrontations like a Lion and Tiger or a Tiger and Bear.
Recently, a video surfaced on the internet showing a huge Sloth Bear confronting a Royal Bengal Tiger for the sake of her cub.
The video shows the mother bear facing off with the tiger. Meanwhile, the cub clings to its mother's back. The bear gives no room for the big cat to harm its offspring. While the big cat continues to find an opportunity to attack the little cub, the mother defends and attacks back. In one moment, the tiger overpowers the bear. The other moment the bear attacks the tiger. While the fight continues for some time, the scared cub remains behind its mother. The jungle giants continue to clash for a while. However, motherhood triumphs at the end. The bear scares away the big cat and continues to chase it to a distance.
While the source of the video couldn't be obtained, it is shared on X by Indian Forest Services (IFS) official Susanta Nanda. He captioned the video, "I can imagine no heroism greater than motherhood.” (sic)
