In an incident from Uttar Pradesh, a bride called off her wedding when the groom arrived drunk at the venue.
According to an AmarUjala report, the incident took place in Tiwari Patti village in Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
Reportedly, the wedding of a youth from Bhalpatti village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district was fixed with a girl from Tiwari Patti village on June 2 (Friday).
On the scheduled date, the groom came in a grand procession at the wedding venue, after which the rituals were performed and the families gathered for the jaimala ceremony.
However, when the bride went to the wedding stage for the jaimala ceremony, she was shocked to find that the groom was drunk and saw him staggering on the stage under the influence of alcohol.
Seeing this, bride was furious and refused to marry the groom and started loudly crying on the stage.
When the girl's father and other family members came to know about this, they also got angry. The wedding rituals were stopped.
While baraatis were released in the night itself, the family members including the groom were detained by the bride’s family.
Though the discussion between the bride and groom continued till late in the night, they couldn’t reach any conclusion.
After this, the bride’s side informed the Sevrahi police about the matter. The police reached there and took the groom to the police station.
Later on June 3 (Saturday) afternoon, the groom's family returned all the money which was spent on the wedding. Following this, the groom and his family members were allowed to return to their village.
