We often read about 'politician-bureaucrat unholy nexus' but this love story from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram is all about the holy matrimonial bond between a politician and a sub-collector.
Yes, you heard that right; this is the story of Kerala cadre IAS officer Divya S Iyer and Congress leader KS Sabrinathan.
According to reports, love bloomed between Divya and Sabrinathan after they met at a public meeting in Thiruvananthapuram. The couple got married in 2017 and are blessed with a baby boy.
The unconventional couple’s marriage became a trending topic throughout the state during that time.
Speaking about their first meeting to onmanoroma, Divya said, “I first met Sabari for some official purpose at the collectorate conference hall premises in Thiruvananthapuram, but there was nothing special about it. Later, during a medical camp, I had conducted, he phoned me to discuss some health issues and solutions for the Kottoor tribal settlement in his constituency. After this conversation, we became close friends and started realizing our common interests.”
Divya said, “Our mutual interests and friendship made us realize that we were meant for each other.”
For the unversed, Divya is a doctor-turned-civil servant. She is also a trained classical dancer and an actor, and had already won people's hearts during her professional stints in Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Her songs for Election Commission's campaign to spread awareness on the ballot battle were also hailed on social media.
KS Sabrinathan, is a former member of the Kerala legislative assembly. He represented the Aruvikkara constituency from 2015 to 2021. Currently, he is the State Vice President of the Youth Congress.
Sabrinathan entered politics after the death of his father G Karthikeyan, who was a veteran Congress leader and Assembly speaker, in 2015.
Notably, Sabarinadhan left a high-profile job with a leading company to contest the by-election from the Aruvikara assembly constituency, which his father represented five times.
