Even though the sports scenario today in India has changed a bit with many young athletes and sportspeople doing incredibly well at the international level, the country still lacks the proper infrastructure and support system that is so important for helping out budding talents when they are struggling.

The above was proved once again when recently a Twitter user Sanjukta Choudhury shared a video clip of former Indian international footballer Poulami Adhikary working as a food delivery agent for Zomato.

Young Poulami represented India at the U-16 level internationally in football and has traveled to Sri Lanka, Germany, and the UK for playing matches.

The girl lost her mother when she was very young and she is the only bread earner in her family which is why she had to take up the job of food delivery agent. Poulami is a student at Charuchandra University and also has an older sister who is married.

The video has shocked many netizens who have come out in support of the young girl. It was shared on 10th January and since then has been viewed 46.000 times and liked by 1800 people.

Many people have said that such topics and troubles of Indian athletes should be discussed and brought to the forefront so that they get the respect, support, and dignity that they deserve.

Many social media users have also enquired about the whereabouts of Poulami Adhikary and have shown their desire to help her pursue a career in football.

From Mary Kom to Dutee Chand and Neeraj Chopra, each Indian athlete had to struggle a lot to reach the international level and gain recognition.

In India where cricket is considered more as a religion than a sport, it is important that people also support other sports and sportspeople apart from cricketers so that all the hardworking athletes get an opportunity to prove themselves that they rightly deserve.
