As India progresses in technology, the Union Government is keenly focused on various aspects of the tech revolution.
They have been actively discussing AI, Meta, Semiconductors, and more.
In a recent NDTV interview, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, "Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritises the semiconductor ecosystem, aiming to develop every aspect of the value chain: design, talent, fabrications, memory, and logic chains."
The government has adopted this comprehensive approach.
The Minister expressed satisfaction that the first unit, the Micron Unity, has made significant progress within a few weeks of announcement and approvals.
"We are delighted with the swift progress of the first Micron unit, with approvals and land allocation completed efficiently. By December 2024, we expect the first 'Made in India' memory chip to be produced at the plant," the Minister added.
During the interview, the Minister also revealed that several other major players in the tech industry are in contact with India.
They are carefully evaluating their options due to the country's abundance of talent, a clear policy regime, and an approach that instills confidence among stakeholders.
