Recently, there was a viral message on social media claiming that the Government of India would be monitoring WhatsApp chats.
According to the message, the government had released new guidelines to keep a check on chats and take action against people.
However, the official Government handle called PIB Fact Check clarified that this claim is false.
They stated on their official Twitter handle that there are no such guidelines issued by the Government of India.
The viral message mentioned various color-coded ticks on WhatsApp to indicate different levels of monitoring and action by the government.
For instance, it suggested that a single gray tick meant the message was sent, two gray ticks meant the message was delivered, two blue ticks indicated the message was read, and three blue ticks signified that the government took action against the individual.
Moreover, if there were two blue ticks and one gray tick, it allegedly indicated that the government could take action against the person, and one blue tick with two gray ticks meant the government was screening their data.
Lastly, the message mentioned that three red ticks implied the government had initiated legal action and the recipient would receive a court summons.
However, PIB's report clarified that this information is entirely false.
WhatsApp does not use color-coded ticks to convey any such meanings, and the government has not introduced any guidelines to monitor WhatsApp chats in the manner described in the viral message.
