Google has introduced new AI tools for healthcare, covering a wide range of tasks, from basic to intricate workflows.
The latest addition to their AI lineup is called 'MedLM.'
According to Google, healthcare organisations are exploring AI applications for various purposes.
Yossi Matias, Google's Vice President of Engineering & Research, highlighted the adaptability of their tools through piloting with different organisations.
He mentioned that the most effective model for a task depends on the specific use case.
How Will These Models Benefit Doctors?
Aashima Gupta, Google Cloud's Global Director of Healthcare Strategy & Solutions, explained that there are two MedLM models.
The first, a larger model, is designed for complex tasks.
The second, a medium-sized model, can be fine-tuned and is ideal for scaling across tasks.
Gupta emphasised that these models were developed based on feedback from healthcare and life sciences customers, focusing on addressing medical queries and creating summaries.
Google provided examples of ongoing tests with healthcare providers.
Gupta mentioned that companies testing MedLM are moving it into production or expanding their trials.
For instance, HCA Healthcare is piloting a solution to assist physicians with medical notes in emergency departments across four hospital sites, as per the report.
While Google aims to harness the transformative potential of generative AI in healthcare, the company emphasises the importance of ensuring a safe and responsible use of this technology for professionals.
