India recorded as many as 52,974 cases of cyber crimes in the year 2021, an increase of nearly 6 per cent compared to the previous year, revealed the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In many cases, people do not report cyber crimes, especially when the financial loss is small. However, reporting a cyber crime is essential to bring cybercriminals to justice.
To file a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting portal, follow these steps:
1. Visit https://cybercrime.gov.in/.
2. Click on "File a complaint" on the homepage.
3. Read and Click "I Accept" the terms and conditions.
4. Click on "Report Cyber Crime."
5. Select "Click Here for New User" and enter your state, name, email, phone number, and other required details.
6. Enter the OTP sent to your registered phone number and fill in the Captcha, then click on the submit button.
7. Fill in the details of the cybercrime you want to report in the form, which is divided into four parts: General Information, Victim Information, Cybercrime Information, and Preview.
8. Make sure to include all relevant details and supporting evidence of the crime, such as screenshots or files.
9. Once you have reviewed and confirmed the information, click on the "Submit" button.
To file a complaint related to online transactions, lottery scams, ATM transactions, fake calls, or internet banking, it is necessary to attach proof of the alleged fraudulent transactions, along with supporting evidence like bank statements, address, and ID proof, and any suspicious messages or emails.
