This announcement appears to be a direct challenge to OpenAI's popular chatbot, ChatGPT.
The AI program will aim to understand the nature of the universe, according to Musk's interview with Tucker Carlson on FOX News Channel.
He believes that this could be the best path to safety since an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans, as we are an interesting part of the universe.
Musk has already registered a new company called X.AI, which will promote AI in the ChatGPT era.
However, this move comes after he and a group of AI experts and industry executives called for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4, citing potential risks to society.

In his interview with Carlson, Musk reiterated his warnings about the potential dangers of AI, stating that it is more dangerous than mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production. He believes that AI has the potential for civilizational destruction.
