In the digital age, crime is on the rise in society, and the government is taking steps to make people aware of the risks in cyberspace.
One such initiative is the Digital Police Portal https://digitalpolice.gov.in, launched by the NCRB and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2017.
In a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Mishra, provided an update concerning the website.
This website aims to provide various services to citizens at both state and central levels.
At the central level, users can utilise the portal to search for Missing Persons, generate vehicle NOCs, access information about Proclaimed offenders, and find the nearest police station.
For state police Citizen Portals, the following services are available through the Digital Police Portal:
- Filing complaints with the concerned Police Station.
- Checking the status of complaints.
- Obtaining copies of FIRs.
- Accessing details of arrested individuals or wanted criminals.
- Checking details of missing and kidnapped persons.
- Finding information about stolen and recovered vehicles, arms, and other properties.
- Renewing various NOCs such as for Procession, Event/Performance, Protest/Strike, etc.
- Providing a platform for citizens to share information and download required forms.
In addition to the Digital Police Portal, another government website, https://cybercrime.gov.in, was launched in 2019 by the MHA.
This portal allows users to report various types of cybercrime, including those affecting women and children.
Citizens across India, both at the state and central levels, can access the features provided on the above-mentioned web portals at any time.
These initiatives aim to enhance public safety and encourage responsible use of digital platforms.
