Promising batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had a memorable day as he scored his maiden Test hundred in his debut match against West Indies during India’s first innings at Windsor Park on Thursday.
The talented batsman was praised from all quarters for his brilliant ton on debut. However, there was a moment in the match which he would regret.
Jaiswal was heard abusing a West Indies player with star batsman Virat Kohli at the non-striker’s end. Jaiswal’s voice was picked up on the stump mic and the clip is now going viral on various social media platforms.
He used a Hindi slang directed at a West Indies player after completing a run. It would be interesting to see if he gets sanctioned by the match referee for his act.
Jaiswal (143 n o, 14x4) became the fourth-youngest Indian to score century on Test debut. The southpaw started from his overnight score of 40. He took a bit of time initially on the second day, before opening his arms against the hosts.
The budding opener looked confident, composed and his clean stroke-play caught the attention of everyone. He stitched together a partnership of 229 runs for the opening partnership along with captain Rohit Sharma (103, 10x4, 2x6).
