Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) has announced cash award for the medal winners in Tokyo Olympics starting later this month.

As per the announcement, an athlete would get Rs 5 lakh cash award if he/she clinches Gold in the event. Similarly, the silver winners will get Rs 3 lakh while the Bronze winners will get Rs 1 lakh.

As many as six athletes from Odisha have been selected for the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to commence from July 23, and it will continue till August 8.

The award has been announced to promote and uplift the spirits of the players, the OOA stated through a communication.

The six sportspersons taking part in the big event are Birendra Lakra, Amit Rohidas (Men’s Hockey); Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo (Women’s Hockey); Dutee Chand (Individual 100m and 200m dash) and Pramod Bhagat (Paralympics).

Earlier, the Odisha government had announced Rs 6 crore cash award for Gold Winners. Similarly, for silver and bronze medalists, the cash prize would be Rs 4 crore and Rs 2.5 crore respectively.
