Shreyas Iyer with Shashank Singh
Shreyas Iyer’s scintillating knock of 97 not out was the highlight of the Punjab Kings’ imposing total of 243/5 in their recent IPL match. The star batsman missed out on a well-deserved century. However, he was seen smiling as he walked back.
Iyer’s innings had been a masterclass of controlled aggression. He had seamlessly moved from one end of the pitch to the other, finding the boundary with ease while displaying textbook shots.
Now, his brilliant innings has turned into a point of contention among fans. The reason? Shashank Singh, who was batting alongside Iyer at the death, managed to hit the runs, denying Iyer the chance to reach a well-deserved century.
Singh who was at the crease in the final moments, decided to go for big shots, hitting the ball for boundaries and sealing the match. While no one could fault him for his positive intent or the victory itself, fans quickly took to social media, expressing their displeasure.
-He was the point of difference against NZ in the sf but someone else took the credit.

- He was the highest scorer in the CT but didn’t get the hype he deserved.

They felt Singh could have played more sensibly to allow Iyer the strike, enabling him to get to the three runs needed for his ton.
However, Shashank later revealed that Iyer prioritized Punjab Kings’ total over personal milestones.
“Yes, it was a good cameo. But looking at Shreyas that motivated me even more. Let me be very honest – Shreyas, from ball one, said don’t worry about my hundred! Just watching the ball and reacting to it,” Singh revealed.
“I try and make sure I get the boundaries. When you bat at that number, it’s likely that you won’t always get a good hit. I know the shots I can back. I focus on my strengths rather than things I can’t do,” he added.
